Everything starts with sunlight
Every egg and every bit of meat on our table started as sunlight. Grass catches it, its roots feed the life in the soil, and the animals eat the grass and feed the soil back. Bare dirt catches nothing. So our job is to keep as much ground green and growing as we can, for as much of the year as we can.
Animals with jobs
The sheep graze a strip of paddock and move on so the grass can rest. The chickens follow behind, scratching through the manure. The pigs dig over rough ground. They get to do what they're built to do, and the land is better for it. Some become our food, and we don't pretend otherwise: a good life and one bad day.
What we don't spray
Most of us assume a weed spray just kills the weed. We did too. But weed killers soak right through a plant, and some linger in hay, manure and soil long after. So we don't use synthetic weed killers or pesticides here. Mostly, the weeds are telling us what the soil is missing.
